The Oberoi Udaivilas in Udaipur

Udaipur consistently ranks as India's number one destination wedding city, and it's not just the lake views. Let me walk through the top hotels in Udaipur for weddings where couples can experience royalty and aesthetics both.

The Oberoi Udaivilas fits the most common brief 150–250 guests, everyone housed on one property, both lake views and large lawns — since it has more rooms and bigger event spaces than most Udaipur palaces.

The hotel sits directly on the banks of Lake Pichola, Udaipur's famous "City of Lakes" waterbody. Guests can arrive via a scenic boat transfer across the lake, followed by romantic shikara rides. The property spans roughly 30-50 acres, built on the 200-year-old hunting grounds of the Maharana of Mewar. About 40% of the property is designated as a wildlife sanctuary that's home to peacocks, and other sources mention it shelters deer and wild boar too. So you get landscaped gardens, courtyards, fountains, and reflection pools alongside genuine pockets of nature right on the property.

The architecture of the hotel is  grand, domed buildings in Mewar-inspired Rajasthani style, with interconnecting domes and walkways designed to echo Rajasthan's royal palaces. It's about 27 km from Maharana Pratap Airport, roughly a 45-minute scenic drive, and around 5 miles from Udaipur Railway Station. It includes a Crescent garden with roughly 300-guest capacity, a poolside area for around 250 guests, front lawns that hold about 450 guests, plus a forecourt and a promenade space.

ROOMS & SUITES

Total rooms available in the venue is approximately 87–89 rooms and suites starting from ₹45,000 to ₹90,000 per night

  • Premier Rooms: courtyard and garden views, around 39 rooms
  • Premier Rooms with pool view: around 26 rooms
  • Premier Rooms with lake view: around 19 rooms
  • Four Lavish Suites: featuring a living room, king-size bedroom, connecting bathroom, dining room, powder room, and private courtyard
  • One Kohinoor Villa: with a master bedroom, dual bedrooms, a dining room, living room, and private pool typically reserved for the couple during a full buyout

LAWN & BALLROOM

The outdoor venues can accommodate up to 350 guests, while indoor venues are comparatively smaller.

The indoor venues include Chandramahal 1 and 2 which are the most popular, each holding around 25 seated or 50 standing guests. This is the main indoor banquet hall. Both combined as the full Chandra Mahal, it seats around 80 with a floating capacity of up to 110. It's elegant and enclosed, so it's typically used for smaller, more intimate functions or as a backup for weather. The front lawn is the largest outdoor venue, with capacity for roughly 400 seated or 800 standing guests. Weddings often hold the actual pheras here, set against the backdrop of Lake Pichola.

BUYOUT COSTS

This is the number most couples actually want, so here it is straight:

For a wedding with 150–200 guests covering a full hotel buyout — accommodation and catering — a 2-day celebration typically runs ₹2.5 to 3.5 crore or more, depending upon the guests count. Catering rates begin around ₹10,000–12,000 per plate depending on the menu. For most couples planning a 150–250 guest destination wedding, The Oberoi Udaivilas remains the strongest overall choice in Udaipur — the room inventory, lawn capacity, and lakeside setting simply give you more flexibility than most competing properties. But "best" ultimately depends on your guest count and budget.

Apart from The Oberoi Udaivilas, we also have:

  • Taj Lake Palace — most iconic and exclusive, floating on Lake Pichola, but a smaller room count limits guest capacity
  • The Leela Palace Udaipur — best for opulent, large-scale receptions with strong banquet infrastructure
  • RAAS Devigarh — best for boutique, high-fashion, intimate weddings
  • Taj Fateh Prakash Palace — best for couples wanting a lived-in, museum-like royal setting inside the City Palace complex
  • Trident Udaipur — best value-for-money option with 43 acres of gardens on Lake Pichola
